With the constant changes within health and safety legislation, it has never been more important to ensure compliance in this field. Contravening this legislation can result in prosecution (with the possibility of an unlimited fine or even imprisonment).

All employers are required to have the correct systems in place to ensure a healthy and safe working environment for employees and any other people who may be affected by their business activities. LEGAL COMPLIANCE

The suite of Health and Safety qualifications has been created to assist your business in complying with legal requirements by demonstrating that your staff members have been trained in preventative approaches to hazards and promoting a positive health and safety culture.

They are also designed to ensure that all employees are aware of their own responsibilities and how they contribute to the effective maintenance of health and safety policies.

All Health and Safety qualifications are suitable for both the public and private sectors.

A total of 4 levels of Health and Safety in the Workplace qualifications are offered:

 

LEVEL 1 - Ensures that candidates are equipped with a basic knowledge of health and safety in their workplace, including the duties under UK health and safety legislation.

LEVEL 2 - provides candidates with knowledge of practices that are essential in the workplace. This includes the hazards and risks presented in the workplace along with the relevant legislation, and ensures awareness of cost-effective, practical control methods.

MANUAL HANDLING injuries are the main cause of lost working days in the UK. These injuries occur due to sprains and strains resulting from the incorrect lifting and movement of objects. In accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and subsequent Regulations, it is the responsibility of all employers to provide employees with sufficient information and training on manual handling. Employees can gain a manual handling qualification through HABC to ensure you are compliant with the regulations and to minimise the costs you incur from work-related lifting injuries.

By training an employee to achieve a manual handling qualification you have an effective way of ensuring that you have taken the necessary due diligence to ensure your staff are adequately trained.

LEVEL 2 AWARD IN SAFE MOVING AND HANDLING - This award makes candidates aware of their responsibilities and gives  them a good understanding of the principles of safe moving and lifting of loads. 

LEVEL 2 AWARD IN MOVING PEOPLE SAFELY - Candidates gaining this award will understand that any moving and handling must be carried out correctly and recognise the importance in this for ensuring a safer working environment for all. The qualification is underpinned by the safe principles of moving and handling but recognises the special skills required when assisting and moving people. This award is suitable for new starters in organisations where the movement and assistance of people is a key role, as well as being suitable for refresher training.

LEVEL 3 - Equips staff to manage the effects of accidents and incidents. It also focuses on the importance of the health and safety culture of a business which is an invaluable resource to organisations.

LEVEL 4 – This qualification is aimed at supervisors and managers with direct responsibility with Health and Safety management. This qualification focuses on the legal and moral obligations supervisors and managers have to ensure health and safety within a business. It also covers obligations to employees, contractors, visitors and suppliers.

Level 1: Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace (QCF)

This qualification focuses on the importance of maintaining Health & Safety and ensuring that employee actions reduce risks in the workplace.

Candidates will gain a sound first level understanding of all aspects of Health and Safety including legislation, fire procedures, chemical safety, manual handling and personal protective equipment ideal as an introduction to general Health and Safety for any environment.

Level 1: Award in Health & Safety for Catering

This qualification focuses on the importannce of maintaining Health and Safety in the catering and hospitality sector.

The qualification will allow candidates to understand the hazards specific to their workplace such as fire procedures for themselves and guests, necessary controls in the kitchen environment and the necessity to follow company Health and Safety rules and procedures.

The cause of accidents, e.g. slippery floors, use of chemicals and fooling around will be understood.

Candidates will understand the hazards associated with operating dangerous equipment, handling hazardous goods and moving and handling products. Level 2: Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace (QCF)

The aim of the HABC Health and Safety in the Worplace qualification is to provide candidates with knowledge of the basic Health and Safety practices that are essential in the workplace. This includes the hazards and risks presented in the workplace along with the relevant legislation, and ensures awareness of cost-effective, practical control methods.

The qualification is applicable for any private or public sector working environment and provides employees with an awareness of their own safety, as well as the safety of customers, contractors and members of the public.

The achievement of the HABC Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace qualification will enable learners to work safely and to recognise and deal with hazards in the workplace.

The Ofqual approved HABC Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace qualification has been developed specifically for insertion onto the Qualification and Credit Framework with full support from ENTO. It is therefore fully cognisant with industry and regulatory standards as well as being recognized by the Health and Safety Executive, Auditors and other Enforcement Officers.

Level 3: Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace (QCF)

The HABC Level 3 Award in Supervising Health and Safety in the Workplace provides progression from the Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace and is intended principally for those who are operating in a supervisory or management role.

Qualification holders will have gained a wide range of knowledge on Health and Safety Law, the hazards present in a workplace and how to implement effective and necessary controls. The HABC Level 3 Award in Supervising Health and Safety in the Workplace will equip candidates with the skills necessary for the effective supervision of staff. It will also focus on the importance of the Heath and Safety culture of a business which will be an invalble resourse to those taking the qualification.

The HABC Level 3 Award in Supervising Health and Safety in the Workplace is applicable for any private or public sector working environment. Candidates working towards the level 3 qualification will know that supervisors and managers have legal and moral obilgation to ensure Heatlh and Safety within a business and that this includes obligations to employees, contractors, suppliers and members of the public. They will also be able to take responsibility for ensuring the competency of the workforce and for indentifying hazards, implementing controls and taking appropriate corrective action when necessary. Further more, holders of the Level 3 Award will assist businesses to demonstrate their legal requirements to engage a "competent person".

The Ofqual approved HABC Level 3 Awarde Health and Safety in the Workplace qualification has been developed specifically for insertion onto the Qualification and Credit Framework with full support from ENTO. Level 4: Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace (QCF)

The Level 4 Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace is a qualification aimed at Supervisors and managers with a direct responsibility for health & Safety management.

The qualification is intended for learners already working in the capacity of supervisors or managers and those who are preparing to start work at this level.

 Candidates gaining this qualifcation will know that Supervisors and Managers have legal and moral obligations to ensure Health & safety within a business and that includes obligations to employees, contractors, visitors and suppliers. Its subject areas are regarded by the Health and Safety Executive as being important to developing safe working procedures in the workplace.

Level 2 Award in Safe Moving & Handling (QCF)

Manual Handling injuries are the cause of most lost working days around 5 million days in the UK, with sprains and strains due to the incorrect lifting and moving of objects causing most suffering to employees. Ensure your staff don't become another statistic by providing them with appropriate training.

Under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, employers are required to take appropriate steps to reduce the risk of injury to emplyees - this includes suitable training.

The Manual Handling Operation Regulations do not set any weight limits for lifting and carrying loads and amendments in 2002 clearly now require employees to have adequate or appropriate knowledge or training. The Regulations will apply to nearly all work activities from offices to care homes and factories. There will be different risks associated with different sectors and the HABC Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling offers learning outcomes which are suitable for all.

The qualification provides an effective means of ensuring that employees are aware of their responsibilities and have understood th eprinciples of the safe moving and lifting of loads.

Level 2 Award in Moving People Safely (QCF)

The HABC Level 2 Award in Moving People Safely will develop a learner's awareness of relevant legislatio and procedures that have an impact on Health & Safety responsibilities.

Under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, employers are required to take appropriate steps to reduce the risk of injury to emplyees - this includes suitable training.

The course will provide theory and practical learning with an emphasis on participant practise of techniques relating to their employment.

The content will develop the learners ability to carry out moving and handling inviduals with respect and dignity, inderstanding the importance of thorough preparation prior to carrying out any task. They will also learn to use approved moving and handling techniques, applying these to a variety of situations involing moving people.
