The HABC Level 1 Award in Health & Safety have been developed to ensure that employees are equipped with a basic knowledge of Health & Safety in their workplace, including duties under Health & Safety legislation.

This qualification focuses on the importance of maintaining Health & Safety in the care sector. An understanding of how to contribute to moving and handling individuals safely and the Health & Safety of individuals in their daily living will be gained.

Also covered is the importance of the maintenance of a safe and clean environment in a variety of settings and the necessity of following company Health & Safety rules and procedures.

The control of infection is important in a wide variety of work places including any health care setting, the hospitality industry and anywhere people are sesiding and working together.

It is essential that employees are aware of the hazards and controls associated with the spread of infection in their workplace. This is important not only for protecting themselves from infection but also to reduce the risks to those around them.

The most effective way of ensuring that employees are aware of how to control the spread of infection is for them to receive appropriate training in infection control.

One of the most high risk environments is healthcare where every year, a significant number of people are made ill and die as a result of healthcare associated infections. Health care providers have a legal and moral obligations to ensure they are not contributing to these statistics.

Level 2 Award in Hygiene and Social Care

In the UK over a million people are employed as carers and milions more provide informal care and support for relatives and friends.

This qualification is designed as an introduction to hygiene, ensuring that vulnerable people are not exposed to unnecessary risks.

Who needs this qualification? Employees who have already received basis health and safety training and would benefit from additional focused training in hygiene hazards and controls. This would include carers and others who provide cleaning and support services in a broad range of contexts, such as:

  • Hospitals
  • Care Homes;
  • Patient's/client's own homes.

Why is this training important? The Department of health has drawn up a code of practice acknowledging that everyone involved in care provision needs traiing to tackle the risk of Health Care Acquired Infection (HCAI)

Based on the first part of the CIEH Level 2 Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace and the CIEH Level 2 Award in Hygiene in Health and Social Care, this qualification provides candidates with a good understanding and knowledge of Health & Safety in the Health and Social Care sector.

This qualification also has the flexibility to suit differing client needs.

This qualification is specifically targeted at employees working in hospitals and care homes in the public sectors.
