This practical course will give First Aid personnel the knowledge and skills neccessary to use the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) competently, and with confidence.
This qualification provides candidates with skills to further their First Aid training for First Aiders in the workplace environment who have access to a defibrillator.
The topic covered are regarded by Skills for Health as being important to maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective administration of cardiopulmonary resuscition and automated external defibrillation.
Within the United Kingdom someone suffers from a heart attack every two minutes. Cardic Arrest is the foremost killer, with over 100,000 people dying as a result from this each year.
A proportion of these people could be saved if a defibrillator was made available.
Automatic External Defibrillators (AED'S) are now becoming more and more common throughout the community. They can be found in some Supermarkets, Leisure Centres and Shopping Precincts.
Although, at present there is no legislation govening Defibrillators, training is essential to ensure that the correct operation will ultimately help to save an individuals life.

Who Should Attend?
This course is ideal for First Aid personnel who wish to learn how to use an AED competently.
Duration:
A 6 hour course consisting of theory and practical work. A maximum of 8 candidates can be accommodated on the course.
Qualification
There is a formal assessment at the start of the day in order that all students can resuscitate effectively. In addition to this, there is an assessment at the end of the course including the practical use of the AED,
On successful completion of the course candidates will receive a certificate of competence valid for 12 months.
